Check to see if you have a healthy paranoia concerning your security. Healthy paranoia can be described as accurate thinking. Dealing with reality in a positive way without ignoring reality as other may do by focusing solely on positive thinking is essential for your balanced footing.
For instance, consider home thefts and in store thefts. Studies support that most thefts are done by individuals working for and friends of the company. 80% of thefts are in house and equally divided between employees and delivery persons, so-called friends of the company. All research studies support these general conclusions.
Furthermore, 5% of the adult population will not steal. They will starve to death rather than steal. They are wired by strong ethical, moral and deep-life principles so they can’t steal. Some are like Jesus.
Then there are 5% of the adult population are compulsive stealers. Will lie, cheat, steal no matter what they do. Can not tell the truth.
The other 90% will steal from you given 3 circumstances:
90% of people will steal from you IF:
- The feel they can go undetected
- They have a perceived need
- They can rationalize their behavior
You can’t control another’s perceived need or their rationalizations but can control their perception of going undetected. The reality check is that you can only effect the feeling that they are being watched, the cookies are being counted and that they can not go undetected. They need mechanisms in place that makes them think that the cookies are counted before and after they leave.
Better to have a healthy paranoia rather than be in denial of the essential behavior of your surroundings.
So never delegate the checkbook. Never delegate the legal end of your life. Security cameras, whether they are hooked up or not, deter thefts. Don’t leave your valuables lying around tempting friends or your gardener. Do inventory and check your jewelry and stash periodically.
